First off the info in this is not exactly fresh it s from 2000 I found some chapters kind of boring but I really enjoyed the chapters about uebec s culture straddled between North America and Europe language First Nations and winter It was kind of Montreal centric you have to keep that in mind for most of the assumptions and observations the author makes For example I lived in the Bas Saint Laurent region where the uestion of English is not a uestion at all but in huge diverse Montreal it s pretty pertinentThis book would have been A LOT different had it been written post 911 not least because the conclusion implies that the u b cois are feeling closer to Americans than Anglo Canadians Overall it cleared up a few peculiarities I had been wondering about while I was living there I m going to give it to my mother to read so that she understands some thi
